My Weekend in Food

Two of my cousins are visiting from Thailand. We had a bit of a reunion and went out for a meal together at the GPT Smokehouse, Bath. My Uncle also went to Thailand to visit family recently and when he returned, he bought me lots of yummy Thai treats. I therefore thought I would replace this week’s My Monday Meals with My Weekend in Food. Here are some of the highlights.

Cousins

I have 14 cousins on my mum’s side of the family. I’m the eldest cousin in this photo.

at GPT Smokehouse

Here Andy, Annabelle and I are joined by my cousins and their partners. Our family gets bigger every time we meet up. We will have two new members by the end of the year. I’m expecting one and my cousin is expecting a boy in August.

GPT Smokehouse

The food at the GPT Smokehouse never disappoints. Andy, Annabelle and I spent New Year’s Eve there with friends. You can read that post here. I had the Belly Pork (pictured above left) with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips. It came with a huge bowl of vegetables (not pictured). Andy had the Pit Master which came out on a tray! It was half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, roast chicken and potato wedges. It’s safe to say that he meat sweats from eating it. The men at the table did really well and demolished not only their food but the ladies’ leftovers too. Despite being pregnant, I probably ate the least. I got full so quickly on the trimmings and could barely manage the pork!

The Treats

Sai Mai

This is Sai Mai. It is one of Andy’s favourite Thai sweets. Basically, it is a thin, lightly sweetened pancake. My uncle bought us this Pandan flavoured variety. We fill the pancakes with sugar spun into hairlike strands. It tastes like candy-floss as it is mostly the same ingredients just spun differently.

Watermelon

My mum bought us this watermelon from a shop near her home in West London. This huge piece is just one quarter of a watermelon and was the same size as our microwave! It cost her less than £2.50!! It was incredibly refreshing and sweet. Not at all sickly.

We were also given some Thai chocolate treats but I’ll share them with you soon, as I haven’t made a start on them yet. Bx
