New Year Habits

This year has flown by at an absolutely rapid pace. I feel like I have blinked and it is December. As I begin to reflect on this year, I realise that so much of it has ‘just passed by’. I was watching the Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary the other day (I’m sooo late to that party – ha ha ha) and my biggest takeaway was how little I have been capturing life. When the children were little, I was frequently filming short clips and taking pictures. Now it just seems to be birthdays, holidays or school events when I open the camera app on my phone. To the point that when I filmed Heath opening his advent calendar yesterday, he seemed to be taken aback.

Last month, I decided to cancel my website and turned off the auto-renew. I was sad but felt that for the amount I used it, it just wasn’t worth it. I also wondered if anyone reads blogs anymore. After watching the documentary, I sat down and started planning what I want to use my website for and what I want to write about. In the past, I always thought I wanted this outlet as I am a creative person and enjoy the ‘making’ part. As I’ve gotten older, I have found that I actually love to look back and remember how I was feeling at that particular time.

Going forward, I am hoping to schedule time and content because I need that structure and routine to get something done. If I have a checklist, I am more likely to accomplish what I set out to do. My aim is to capture more of the things I do, live at a slower, healthier pace and have visual diary what life is like. My hope is that I find my ‘video diaries’ less cringey (I don’t watch my old YouTube videos for that reason! Belles loves them). I used to focus a lot on ‘stuff’ e.g. make up, clothes and stress if I couldn’t buy new things to share on my social media outlets. The shift in social media to highlight that people are actually wearing/using items they have had for a few years makes me feel so much happier. I have Ugg boots, jumpers, scarves etc that are older than my children! My first pair of Uggs are around 18 years old and look nearly new.

You are very welcome to join me on this journey. I am going to be discussing my thoughts, feelings and generally being more of an open book. I have always held back in the past and been afraid to share. No more 🙂 Bx

Christmas and New Year – What We Did

We spent Christmas 2016 in Cornwall with my in-laws. It was a very lovely festive season but it seemed to be over in a flash! Unfortunately, it was a slightly rocky start as during a three hour journey from Bath to Newquay, Heath was car sick and threw up 10 minutes before we were due to arrive. I then caught the cold that I had been fighting off for weeks (typical isn’t it!) and ended up spending Christmas Eve in bed 😦

Luckily, the rest of the holidays went smoothly. We had a great Christmas Day. Everyone was delighted with their gifts (see what I got for Christmas here) especially Heath who was so happy with the first present he opened, his Micky Mouse Duplo train that he didn’t want to open anything else!

As always, we ended up on the beach for a lovely walk. We headed to Crantock Beach, which is very close to Newquay. It was a bit too chilly to stay out for long and both kids were a bit tired from all the Christmas excitement but it was nice to stretch our legs and inhale the salty sea air.

Despite the cold, Annabelle was desperate to go in to the sea for more than a paddle! Heath, as well as eating the sand, had lots of fun exploring, chasing Sally the family labrador and throwing a tantrum as he wasn’t ready to head home just yet.

We headed back to Somerset on the 28th and spent New Year with my mum and Uncle, celebrating his birthday. How did you ring in the New Year? I hope you had a lovely Christmas. Bx
