Estee Lauder Foundation – First Impressions

Last year (OK it was only November but it was still last year!), I purchased the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation as I have read lots of reviews about it and wanted to see if it was worth the hype.

I was using the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation however, as much as I like my complexion when I wear it, I just don’t think it has the staying power or coverage that I need. So I thought I would try the Double Wear foundation as I heard it is great to meet these two needs.

When I applied it, even with a good moisturiser, my skin did look slightly patchy up close. It is fine from a normal distance, e.g. friend width apart! but probably not as attractive for ‘friends with benefits’ closeness. Oddly enough, the finish did improve with a translucent powder on top. I used the Mac Mineralise Skinfinish natural powder in shade medium.

On camera, I think the finish looks quite natural but it could do with a slight dew or glow as it is a tad too matte. I will continue to use it until it is finished and might try a different powder with a subtle shimmer to give a warmer appearance in the meantime, but I think I will definitely shop around when the bottle is empty.

One pro of this foundation is that it has staying power. It lasts all day and can be tough to remove without a decent cleansing routine. I have to start with a face wipe before using my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish.

One con of the Double Wear is the packaging. The bottle doesn’t have a pump or pipette which would be useful when applying in a rush or in an early morning blur. I am always slightly paranoid that I will spill it everywhere and I have to make sure that my kids don’t get hold of it as I imagine it will stain our carpets and soft furnishings if they do.

Overall, I would say that my first impressions of the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation would be great for coverage and longevity but a bit matte in appearance. Have you tried Double Wear? What are your thoughts on the foundation? Bx

  1. I am a massive fan!
I used to always wear the MAC double wear, until I tried the Estée Lauder double wear! I have been using this foundation now for over a year and I have not looked back!
It was only last night my cousin complimented me on my foundation and asked what it was, saying my skin looked ‘flawless’
I would definitely recommend applying straight after you have moisturised, as the consistency is quite thick.
Once it is on your face though, you can’t feel it!

    1. Thank you for the tip lovely. I will definitely do that until I have finished the bottle but I think I might shop around after that cos I have quite dry skin. I am curious to try a Bare Minerals foundation. How do you think the MAC Double Wear compares to the Estee Lauder? x

      1. I have very dry and sensitive skin also, it’s taken me a while to find the right moisturiser. Without this, my skin would be too dry for the Estée Lauder foundation!
I found the MAC very light and runny. It didn’t stay on for the whole day and I found that it dried out my skin more!
It is a good foundation but just not for my skin.
Hopefully you find a nice one after this one, let us know what you try as I’d be interested 😊

    1. You can ask the Estée Lauder counters for a colour matched sample to try at home. The bottle size is normally enough for a couple of days wear 🙂

  2. My mother has this foundation but i noticed she don’t wear it has much as her good ole maybelline fit me. She said if it would of had a pump or dropper then she wouldn’t mind wearing it everyday. She’s afraid of the mess it might cause

    1. aleeyaazimulla has mentioned in the comments that there is a pump from MAC that fits the bottle. It’s £4 which isn’t too bad so hopefully your mum can use it more now 🙂
