Starting to Exercise

My husband, Andy, has encouraged me to start exercising. It was only a light introduction with planks and press ups but I wanted to do something light today and then build it up gradually. I’m aiming to do something tomorrow morning and then again in the evening.

As you can see, we started off with 3 sets of 20 second planks. This is an exercise I am familiar with from the Yoga and Pilates classes I used to take before I had Annabelle. I used to love going to these classes but my favourite was probably Body Balance. In those classes there is a combination of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates all set to music.

In the New Year, I am going to start attending a Zumba class with two mummy friends. I am actually really excited for this despite being ridiculously uncoordinated. It’s safe to say I will never win a ‘Best Dancer’ award.

My plan to eat well is also taking steps in the right direction. For lunch today I had a jacket potato with tuna, sweetcorn, baked beans and a tiny dollop of mayonnaise. Normally, I would cover it in handful of cheese which probably 2-3 times more than the recommended daily allowance (1 matchbox size serving).

I am also trying to cut down my snacking but every time I see the Terry’s chocolate orange or Cadbury’s Marvellous Creations, I find it ridiculously hard to resist. I must stop buying them!

Anyway, have you started  eating healthier foods and exercising yet? Let me know what you have done to get the ball rolling. Bx

Losing My Mum Tum

It’s not even Christmas yet and I am not thinking about all the food I will (or won’t) be eating this Festive Season. I am thinking about losing my mum tum, the New Year and what I hope to achieve in 2016. It will be a pretty memorable year as Annabelle will start Primary School in September. She is currently in Pre-School and I am not going to lie, I am incredibly sad she will be leaving. I absolutely love the warm and welcoming environment the teachers have created and I am so fond of all the staff. It feels like I am leaving my daughter with family. Anyway, that’s not what I wanted to talk about today. I actually wanted to talk about food. Food is the reason I started this blog and it is something I need to think about now and for 2016.

Mince Pie

In my recent Vlog, I mentioned that I haven’t been looking after myself as I wasn’t eating properly. Some mornings I would only have a soya milk latte for breakfast and then I would eat unhealthy snacks instead of a proper meal. Most days I would go to bed with a gurgling tummy as I would have a small dinner because I would get full quickly and so by 9pm I would be hungry again.

I am currently writing a food diary for a bowel specialist I have been seeing. I was referred to her after I stopped seeing my physiotherapist (my stomach muscles separated during pregnancy or Heath’s birth). As I was conscious that someone was analysing what I ate, I started to eat three regular meals and made healthier choices. This is what a typical day looks like now:

Breakfast: Porridge with blueberries and dried cranberries
Lunch: Cheese and onion sandwich with an apple and half a packet of crisps
Dinner: Stir-fried bacon with cabbage and boiled rice
Snack: A mince pie with Bailey’s cream

Going forward, my main focus is to lose my mum tum. I normally wear size 28 waist jeans and trousers but I find some styles a bit baggy. My aim is to tone up so I can fit into a size 26. After Heath was born, I started off quite well and lost a lot of weight but as the last few months have been quite stressful, I have been eating a lot more chocolate and picking at food.

My diet hopes include:
Eating more fruit and vegetables
Increasing my intake of water to 2 litres
Cutting the unhealthy carbs e.g. white bread, pasta and potatoes

I am going to try to blog and vlog about my ‘diet’ going forward, so let me know if you are in the same boat as me and maybe we can inspire each other! Bx
