I mentioned in my 2025 TBR post that next year, I want to choose new books to read that aren’t from my typical genres. I started this goal early by reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I finished it this morning and found it to be a fairly easy read. It is fantasy fiction about a cross-over between the faerie and human worlds and with a bit of romance thrown in too.

It took me a while to get into the book and feel compelled to carry on reading. There parts that are darker than the fiction I prefer but and it can be gruesome like The One by John Marrs.
I am also listening to Tom Lake by Ann Patchett on Audible whilst I crochet for my Cancer Research challenge. This is narrated by Meryl Streep and I am only on chapter 4 but really loving it so far. She is such an amazing actress and narrator.
Since my 2024 – A year in books post, I finished Talking at Night by Claire Daverley. Some of the themes and feel of book reminded me of One Day by David Nicholls for the journey of the two main characters and Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney for the way the characters treat others and behave. If you haven’t read any of these three books, I would suggest Conversations with Friends and One Day before Talking at Night.
My aim is to finish Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin in January 2025. I started it a while ago and found it interesting but I sometimes struggle to read books that I need to concentrate on. It’s like my brain needs something fluffy where I don’t need to think too much about what I am reading. This is often as I try to read a chapter or two before going to bed but find it hard to switch off. If I read in the day, I only get the chance at the weekend and the house can be a bit noisy!
I’m unlikely to finish Tom Lake before the end of 2024 but at least I’ll make a great start on my 2025 Reading Challenge (25 books in 2025). Bx
