Ultimate Christmas Playlist – Blogmas Day 12

HALF WAY! Blogmas Day 12 and I am not feeling very festive at the moment. When it was cold and wintery, it definitely felt more like Christmas. To get me feeling less Bah Humbug, I thought I would create a playlist of my favourite songs (in this order) and share them with you.

  1. Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas.
This is my ULTIMATE Christmas song. I never tire of hearing it on the radio at this time of year. I love everything about it from the lyrics to how she doesn’t over sing. There are so many Christmas songs where you’re just listening to it thinking, ‘Yes, we know you have an amazing voice but you’ve just over sung it!’.
  2. Macy Gray – Winter Wonderland.
Her voice in this song. LOVE. IT! I am pretty sure I haven’t heard a version of this song that I don’t like but there is something about the way Macy sings it that makes hers my favourite. The pace, the instruments and her intonation.
  3. East 17 – Stay Another Day
I think I was 12 when this song was released! How crazy is that? The music video for it looks so dated though so you can tell it was made in the early 90s. I haven’t heard it on the radio or in the shops yet in 2016 which is pretty odd as it is a popular Christmas song. Maybe it will be on the rotation in the next week or so.
  4. Wham! – Last Christmas
It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a bit of George Michael! I have only grown to like this song in recent years as it really used to bug me as a child/teenager… probably because it was everywhere. It also used to remind me of working in my parents’ cafe where it would be played on the radio about 50 times a day. OK, slight exaggeration there. On that note, I would also like to state that I very very strongly dislike (I don’t hate it, just don’t want to hear it for another decade) the Pogues Fairytale of New York and Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas for that reason too!
  5. Brenda Lee – Jingle Bell Rock
Mean Girls put this song in to my top 5 favourite Christmas songs. It is a great movie and one that I like to watch during the holidays. It actually bumped another Brenda Lee Christmas song down to number 6 which is Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.

What songs do you think I have I missed from my top five Christmas songs? Something for Mr Buble? White Christmas? Baby, It’s Cold Outside? Let me know in the comments below. Bx
