My Style – Mum in my 40s

I turned 40 a few years ago and feel that I went through a phase where I didn’t really know what to wear. Added to that, I found that my body changed shape and things I used to wear were either uncomfortable or unflattering.

Initially, I stopped buying clothes thinking that I would wait until I lost weight but I struggled to get into a good exercise routine. My style now is based largely on comfort. I wear trainers a lot, opting for smart ones for work or comfy flats. I’ve worn these M&S flats on a couple of nights out as they are perfect for going from the office to dinner in town.

I never used to like roll neck jumpers when I was younger. I used to find them irritating. I love them now, especially as I feel the cold more. I don’t own this one from M&S but I love the colour and shape. I have this style of jumper in various neutral colours including a beige and a black one from Hush (in the style Meryll) and grey from H&M.

I seem to be addicted to beanies at the moment and have this one from H&M. I also purchased a powder blue one from Sweaty Betty in the Black Friday sale. Again, I never really liked wearing beanies in the past as I used to get too hot.

My Levi’s 90s have been my favourite jeans for well over a year. The colour is ideal for dressing up or down and they fit so well. I would love to get a comfortable pair of cream jeans as I don’t own anything like that.

M&S always have really cute handbags. I have only purchased a summery straw bag last summer but I’ve seen so many lovely autumn/winter ones recently like the one above. This is typical of my style at the moment. I don’t wear a lot of colour opting for black, browns, darker greens and creams. I have wanted a bit of colour and seen lots of teal, orange and red accessories I like. I’d also really like a pair of leopard print jeans but I don’t think I’d wear them enough.

Has your style evolved recently – let me know? Bx
