Pregnancy Update: 23 weeks

Welcome to my 23 week pregnancy update. I definitely think my bump is bigger this time round but unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures or measurements last time to compare.

23 Weeks Front

I am: at the end of week 23
I weighed: 132lbs/60kg
I’ve gained: No change from last week so I am still my pre-pregnancy weight. I regained the 13lb/6kg I lost from Hyperemesis gravidarum, (really bad morning sickness). I seem to put on about 2lbs every fortnight.
I’m wearing: A maternity jean skirt from Mamas and Papas. My friend gave me a massive bag of maternity clothes and this was one of my favourite items. It has an elasticated band at the front and adjustable bands on the side. The vest is a non-maternity top from River Island from a couple of years ago.
How I’m feeling: As you may have seen in my 22 week pregnancy update, I looked quite tired at 23 1/2 weeks. I keep having vivid dreams and waking up unsettled as a result, especially one night where I dreamt that I lost my wedding ring. I am feeling a bit panicked that I don’t have everything I need for the new baby but there are only a few things left to buy and none of them are essential either.
Highlight: Annabelle’s swimming is also a highlight this week too. She swam another length on her own but with a swimming float this time. She seems to be gaining more and more confidence in the water and it is such a shame that we only have one more lesson until September. I will be heavily pregnant by then and she will start pre-school too so I’m not sure if we will be able to take any lessons.
The baby is: The size of a large mango and boy can I feel it! It wriggles around like anything and if I’m talking to Annabelle or Andy it really wants to be involved in the conversation. There are definite movements in reaction to sounds and pokes. It often sits in very uncomfortable positions as well! Often pressing on my bladder and making the base of my belly feel really stretched. I don’t remember Annabelle being this uncomfortable.
Food cravings: I’ve gone off ready made Spaghetti Bolognese as it tastes so salty. I have been enjoying anything cold and refreshing and even dreaming of watermelon. I may have to ask my mum to buy me another piece as I see her today. I love eating it with Halloumi cheese. My sweet tooth has also gone into overdrive and I have chocolate and/or ice-cream everyday! Kelly’s Cornish Clotted Cream Ice-cream is the favourite in original or honeycomb flavour.
Symptoms: Again other than tiredness, it’s been another pretty good week! I’ve had a couple of cold symptoms: sore throat, sneezing etc but they seem to be in the morning and disappear before lunchtime.
My body: As mentioned in my recent Lush Cosmetics post, I seem to have dry skin at the moment. This may be why I’m craving refreshing food and drinks. I’ve been trying to up my water intake and I’ve been smothering my belly (the worse area) in a coconut moisturiser from the Body Shop. It smells amazing!
Any mood swings? A little bit irritable and restless from tiredness but generally happy.
I’m looking forward to: It should be a relatively quiet week so I guess I’m looking forward to the little things like playing in the sunshine with Annabelle and eating some watermelon.

Pregnancy Update: 22 weeks

Sorry this post is so late. I was away at the weekend in Swindon with Annabelle and Andy was in Oxford. We’ve had sniffles and over-tiredness as a result this week.

As you can probably tell from the photos, I’ve been a bit tired this week.

22 Weeks Bump

I am: at the end of week 22 (when I wrote this but now 23 1/2 weeks)
I weighed: 132lbs/60kg
I’ve gained: 2lbs from last week so I am now my pre-pregnancy weight! I regained the 13lb/6kg I lost when I suffered with Hyperemesis gravidarum, which is really bad morning sickness, in my first trimester.
I’m wearing: Maternity trousers from Mothercare. I bought them in my last pregnancy and found them really comfy last time but quite uncomfortable with this bump. It’s only the sides that are elasticated. The top is from Hollister so it is not maternity and getting a bit short.
How I’m feeling: I’m feeling good this week. I’ve got the second trimester glow where there is no morning sickness from the first trimester and not as much discomfort as is experienced in the third. The only thing I have to gripe about, and it’s really trivial, is sleep. It is so hard to get comfortable and I fall so deeply that I hate being woken up as it takes ages to either fall back to sleep (if I can) or to wake up fully. But as I say, it is trivial and quickly forgotten.
Highlight: Annabelle swam an entire length on her own with a swimming noodle! We have been swimming together not only to keep fit and active throughout my pregnancy but also for Annabelle to gain confidence in the water. I was actually beginning to dread our swimming lessons as she seemed to have developed a fear of the advanced activities. She would cling to my neck and whimper but seeing how far she has come has made it all worth it. After the lesson, she seemed really proud of herself too and has hopefully regained her confidence.
The baby is: About 11 inches and getting really strong. I can feel a lot of movement especially after eating fruit or something sweet. I don’t feel it moving so much at night so I’m hoping it will be a good sleeper but it could just be that I’m to deep in sleep to be aware of any strong kicks or wiggles!
Food cravings: More porridge, again! Lots of fruit too, Braeburn apples, watermelon and raspberries. Did you see how large the piece of watermelon was that my mum bought for us? If not, click here. Andy and I have eaten 90 per cent of it. The worst craving this week has been ready made Spaghetti Bolognese. I’m not quite sure why it has to be pre-packed and not fresh, maybe it is the salt content…eek! I’ve limited myself to two this week to prevent kidney failure.
Symptoms: A pretty good week! Long may it continue. Just minor discomfort in the form of stretched feelings at the base of my bump which I have been moisturising to prevent stretch marks.
My body: Thankfully I had no stretch marks in my last pregnancy and so far in this pregnancy. I feel a lot bigger but I haven’t put on a huge amount of weight just gradually gained a few pounds each fortnight. I guess I’m lucky that I haven’t craved excessive amounts of fried food, carbohydrates or meat.
Any mood swings? A pretty happy mood week.
I’m looking forward to: Birthday parties and seeing my mum’s best friend from Thailand. She is like a second mum to me.
