My Weekend in Food

Two of my cousins are visiting from Thailand. We had a bit of a reunion and went out for a meal together at the GPT Smokehouse, Bath. My Uncle also went to Thailand to visit family recently and when he returned, he bought me lots of yummy Thai treats. I therefore thought I would replace this week’s My Monday Meals with My Weekend in Food. Here are some of the highlights.

GPT Smokehouse, Bath

I have 14 cousins on my mum’s side of the family. I’m the eldest cousin in this photo.

at GPT Smokehouse

Here Andy, Annabelle and I are joined by my cousins and their partners. Our family gets bigger every time we meet up. We will have two new members by the end of the year. I’m expecting one and my cousin is expecting a boy in August.

GPT Smokehouse

The food at the GPT Smokehouse never disappoints. Andy, Annabelle and I spent New Year’s Eve there with friends. You can read that post here. I had the Belly Pork (pictured above left) with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips. It came with a huge bowl of vegetables (not pictured). Andy had the Pit Master which came out on a tray! It was half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, roast chicken and potato wedges. It’s safe to say that he meat sweats from eating it. The men at the table did really well and demolished not only their food but the ladies’ leftovers too. Despite being pregnant, I probably ate the least. I got full so quickly on the trimmings and could barely manage the pork!

The Treats

Sai Mai

This is Sai Mai. It is one of Andy’s favourite Thai sweets. Basically, it is a thin, lightly sweetened pancake. My uncle bought us this Pandan flavoured variety. We fill the pancakes with sugar spun into hairlike strands. It tastes like candy-floss as it is mostly the same ingredients just spun differently.

My mum bought us this watermelon from a shop near her home in West London. This huge piece is just one quarter of a watermelon and was the same size as our microwave! It cost her less than £2.50!! It was incredibly refreshing and sweet. Not at all sickly.

We were also given some Thai chocolate treats but I’ll share them with you soon, as I haven’t made a start on them yet. Bx

Date Night: Gascoyne Place, Bath

As I mentioned in my 17 Week Pregnancy Update, on Thursday Andy and I went on a Spa Date to the Thermae Bath Spa and for dinner at Gascoyne Place in Bath. Despite living in Bath for 10 years, we had never been to either places before and we had really been missing out!

Octopus Salad

For starter, Andy had an Octopus salad with Whitebait, Jersey Royals, Chorizo, Asparagus and Bagna Cauda Dressing. I wasn’t keen to try the octopus as I am a big wuss and not very adventurous with certain food. He throughly enjoyed it and there wasn’t even a smidge of sauce left on his plate.

Cheese Tart

I had a very generous portion of their cheese tart to start with apple slices and salad. If this had been served in a deli it would have been the same size as a quiche on their lunch menu. It was safe to say that I was very full after the delicious entrée. I can’t remember the variety of cheese, I think it was Westcombe Cheddar but it wasn’t pungent or overpowering and well balanced by the tartness of the apple and crunch from the radish.

Beer Battered Hake

Andy ordered the Beer Battered Hake with chips, pea salad and tartare sauce. This was so nice that he kindly swapped his main with my burger and chips as he saw how much I enjoyed it. To be fair, I couldn’t manage much of his dish as I was so full after my starter.

Burger and Chips

I had a beef burger with gherkins and salad, twice cooked chips and garlic mayonnaise. It looks quite small but it’s deceptive and Andy and I nearly skipped on dessert as we were so full. But I did say nearly… We rarely skip dessert as we love it so much! After digesting for a while, well actually a long while, we shared the white chocolate panna cotta with rhubarb crumble and rhubarb espuma. I really wish I had a picture to show you as it was one of the best desserts I’ve had in years. We got a bit too excited to try it as we’d never had espuma, a frothy gel of sorts, before. It’s safe to say that most of the dessert had gone before I even remembered that I needed to take a picture, sorry!

If you’d like to try Gascoyne Place, then I’d recommend booking a table on 01225 445854. Address: 1 Sawclose, Bath BA1 1EY
